# Timeblocking
Assign tasks to specific time ranges to stay focused and avoid context-switching. Timeblocking helps you visualize your day, manage time effectively, and prevent overcommitting.

~**Getting Started:**~
- Create a task or checklist in your note that you want to timeblock.
	- Not all tasks are equal. If it’s a simple chore that happens once or daily, use a checklist instead (type “+ ”).
- Drag it from the note into the right-side timeline and drop it where you want.
	- Adjust the duration by dragging the top or bottom edge.
- Done—you’ve blocked time for the task.

## Calendar Syncing
You can sync timeblocks to your calendar so they appear in other apps.
Use the settings button at the top right of the timeline to choose whether NotePlan should create calendar events for your timeblocks or just send a regular notification.
If you update a timeblock, the event will be updated as well, but not vice-versa.

## Pro Tips
- When you time-block a task that may take several days, create a separate checklist item for each timeblock, in addition to the main task. The timeblock will end, but the task may remain open.
- For daily chores at specific times (or those you prefer at specific times), create a template and enable auto-insertion into your daily notes. You can exclude weekends, for example. Learn more about templates in [[Templating]].
	- You can also use auto-insert templates to pre-plan your entire day with timeblocks. Create sample templates by clicking [here](noteplan://x-callback-url/createTemplates)—one of which is the [[⏱️ Time Blocking Template]].
